The Winnipeg International Airport.  Opened in 1964 and demolished in 2012, this magnificent International Style building is a lost gem of Canadian Modernist architecture.

Architects: Bernard Brown and David Thordarson

Firm: GBR (Green, Blankstein and Russell)

Photos from the Winnipeg Tribune archives.

Lounge seating was designed by Bill Katavolos, Ross Little and Mike Kelly for Laverne.  Diamond Chairs by Harry Bertoia surround elliptical tables by Charles and Ray Eames.  The huge mural on the west side is Eli Bornstein’s Structurist Relief in 15 Parts (the largest piece Bornstein ever created if I’m not mistaken).  The beautiful mosaic mural in the east side is John Graham’s Northern Lights.
